• Apple's MacBooks are entering a new era. In 2020 the company announced it was moving away from the Intel chips it has been employing since 2006, and rolled out the first Macs with an Apple.
• What’s in the menu bar on Mac? The menu bar runs along the top of the screen on your Mac. Use the menus and icons in the menu bar to choose commands, perform tasks, and check status. You can set an option to automatically hide the menu bar so it’s shown only when you move the pointer to the top of the screen. See Change Dock & Menu Bar.

Memu Mac

Your Mac provides several tools to help you identify it. The simplest is About This Mac, available by choosing About This Mac from the Apple () menu in the upper-left corner of your screen. The other is the System Information app. Learn how to use these tools to identify your Mac.

If you have a 15-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro, or the 13-inch MacBook Air, the LandingZone ($259 to $329) is an ideal docking solution if easy connectivity is your key concern.

If you don’t have your Mac or it doesn’t start up, use one of these solutions instead:

• Find the serial number printed on the underside of your Mac, near the regulatory markings. It’s also on the original packaging, next to a barcode label. You can then enter that serial number on the Check Coverage page to find your model.
• The original packaging might also show an Apple part number, such as MNYF2xx/A (“xx” is a variable that differs by country or region). You can match the Apple part number to one in the list below to find your model.

About battery cycles

When you use your Mac notebook, its battery goes through charge cycles. A charge cycle happens when you use all of the battery’s power—but that doesn’t necessarily mean a single charge.

For example, you could use half of your notebook's charge in one day, and then recharge it fully. If you did the same thing the next day, it would count as one charge cycle, not two. In this way, it might take several days to complete a cycle.

Batteries have a limited amount of charge cycles before their performance is expected to diminish. Once the cycle count is reached, a replacement battery is recommended to maintain performance. You can use your battery after it reaches its maximum cycle count, but you might notice a reduction in your battery life.

Knowing how many charge cycles your battery has and how many are left can help you determine when a battery replacement is required. Your battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original charge capacity at its maximum cycle count. For best performance, replace your battery when you reach its maximum cycle count.

Follow these steps to access information about your Mac notebook battery, including its cycle count:

1. Hold the Option key and click the Apple  menu. Choose System Information.
2. Under the Hardware section of the System Information window, select Power. The current cycle count is listed under the Battery Information section.
